Rome/Florence (2001-2004)
Shortly after graduating from the New York Academy of Art, Mac Manus moved to Rome. Close to so much inspiring art, he set to work on a commission for St. Peter's Basilica. After eighteen months he moved north to Florence and during the eighteen months he spent there, he worked on life size bronze sculptures for clients in New York City and Washington, DC. During his sojourn in Italy, Mac Manus also spent time copying masterpieces in museums and churches. His understanding of human anatomy gave him an artistic "grammar" with which he felt he could engage in a dialogue with the great Italian masters and come to a deeper understanding of how to depict the human form and to transform it with spirituality.
