Process

The successful model maker is skillful, meticulous, deliberate, and patient. Some of the models on view in this exhibit were assembled from more than 300 parts or pieces. The model maker's tools include X-Acto knives, special glues, tweezers, and a magnifying glass (to work with the tiniest pieces). The model on display (right) is a work-in-progress. When finished, it will be a model of the Wormser Dom, or Worms Cathedral, in Worms, Germany.

The models in this exhibit are made from kits. The great majority of the publishers and distributors of such kits are based in Europe and the instructions for assembling the models are in languages other than English. The leading sources are listed below:
